Tony Johnson who lives in Charleston SC and who works at Lowcountry Tile Contractors in Charleston is a thief. His employer Jeff Singletary was emailed dozens of times before this blog was posted informing him of the evidence and he chose not to reply.
I moved full time to Thailand in 2006. I have no USA address. On July 3 of 2022 I returned to the USA to do two things: clean out my storage locker which I had been paying on since 2006 and second, to sell about 30K-40K worth of Christmas ornaments to a buyer who had agreed to purchase them.
I had no valid USA driver’s license so I hired a driver from a local Church group. He picked me up at the Chicago airport and we immediately drove to the storage locker to pick up the ornaments. The buyer was driving in from Ohio the next day. We then drove to my hotel where I began to unwrap and check off the ornaments I knew I had in storage and that the buyer agreed to purchase. When I unwrapped the last ornament I was about 20 ornaments short. I went back to the storage locker the next day with the driver and it was then I realized I had been robbed.
I will skip what unfolded as it is not germane to the story but suffice to say management stated that no one had used my password ever in all the years I had my items stored there. It was clearly an inside job in my view but there was nothing I could do about it as I was leaving in two days.
The buyer came the next day and was upset that 1/3 of the orns were missing from the list and at first felt perhaps I had sold them to someone else which of course was not the case. We concluded our transaction and I went back to the storage locker with the driver and he helped me do three things: He helped me pack up two large suitcases which I would return with to Thailand; he helped me box up about 15-20K worth of ornaments, antiques, a rare rug and 30 of my books called, “Christmas Rarities’ which I published and is about antique Christmas ornaments which I was to ship to a friend in Charleston SC (Tony Johnson) who had agreed to sell for me on Ebay or elsewhere and the third thing he helped me with was to throw out all the other times I could not take with me or ship to Tony. It included about 500 of my books valued at $200 ea. Hard to believe but true. Everything was thrown out in a large dumpster on site that the manager had agreed to.
We then went to the UPS store and I shipped the items to Tony Johnson in North Carolina. As stated earlier I had previously contacted him and asked if he would help me to sell my items and he agreed. I was running very low on funds and needed the money. I had no insurance in Thailand and I had many medical bills. The cost of the shipping was about $500. Mr Johnson lives at 727 Stonefield Ave, Charleston SC 29412 ph# 843 327 6961. He works at Lowcountry Tile located at 1989 Dulsey Rd, Charleston SC29407.
I had met Tony Johnson at a Christmas convention around 2000 and he helped me with my book. I considered him a good friend, a trustworthy person and an honest individual. It turns out he became a crook and a thief and he stole from me.
I had included about 200 ornaments but I did not have an exact count so I asked him to let me know how many he had. I had a possible buyer. He responded that he would get back to me but he never did. The buyer got tired of waiting and backed out. She had offered me up to $1000 depending on count and descriptions.

Tony knew I had retired and moved to Thailand permanently in 2006 and had no USA address and was not intending to move back there. He was not only aware of my situation he allowed me to use his mailing address and in fact he had sent me some mail received there. Note the following emails:

After dozens of requests and promises to do so as of April 21, 2025 almost 3 years later Mr Johnson has still not provided me with:
1. A full accounting of all items sold, sales amounts, fees paid, money sent to me, and monies owed to me
2. A full list of items still in his possession including photos of items still in his possession
3. Payment for 7 books sold on Ebay (documentation from Ebay) @200 ea
4. Photos of all books still in his possession
5. Refusal to return items to Mr Lightner or to deliver to either a third party seller or auction house
Mr Johnson was totally aware that Mr Lightner had no residence any longer in the USA and would not be returning to the USA, had no one else available to sell the items in the USA and could not ever accept any return of any items he had shipped to him. In fact, Mr Johnson had agreed both to allow Mr Lightner to use his address in NC as his mailing address and in fact Mr Johnson had also sent Mr Lightner mail to Thailand.
Before writing this or posting to any blogs I had tried to contact the owner of Lowcountry Tile Contractors located at 1989 Dulsey Rd, Charleston, SC 29407 where Mr Johnson works. I had sent dozens of emails, left 3-4 phone messages, posted on their Facebook page to contact me but he never responded. He knows the full story and he knows that Mr Johnson is a thief and apparently he does not care.
It appears Mr Johnson is in desperate need of money and if he is willing to steal from a friend (ex) he surely might think of stealing from a client on a job site.
I had agreed to pay Mr Johnson a 25% commission on all items sold with a 50% commission on book sales less fees etc. My shipping costs were obviously to come off the top first. Customers were to pay for shipping and insurance. Mr Johnson never charged the buyers for shipping and insurance but deducted it from my monies.
As the months went by with no updates, no sales reported or money sent to me I began to inquire why not. From July of 2022 to Jan of 2024 I had made dozens of requests for any updates on sales etc but Mr Johnson never gave me any updates. Because I trusted him I foolishly waited 18 months before I finally, on March 14 of 2024 I emailed Mr Johnson threatening to contact his boss.
He sent me a list (see attached file) showing he owed me $1109.76 on Mar 15, 2024. According to the list he made 4 sales between July of 2023 and August of 2023 and 10 book sales between Aug of 2023 and Jan of 2024. He never listed a single item for almost a year.
After more emails and getting no answers from Mr Johnson for almost 7 months I emailed him on Feb 6, 2023 stating, “

Anyway, I'm getting concerned that you have not gotten back to me about my stuff. I was hoping by now most of it had been sold but I cannot find anything even listed. Please advise what is going on especially with the rug.
I did ask that you list everything and get it sold as I could use the money. I'm still dealing with my spinal stenosis which is worse than just having the 3 herniated disks. Unfortunately it cannot be healed and is a progressive disease something I know you are dealing with as well but at least I can walk now but always in pain.

I really am scared to list the rug on EBay, but I don’t have any auction houses around here that are worth a crap. If I put it on EBay with a reserve they will charge me a non refundable 300.00 (10%) fee. Do you want me to start it at 1000.00 and see what happens?

So I finally found your Ebay site and honestly there is only my book on it. You told me you were gonna post all my stuff. What is going on Christmas is almost over. i just do not understand wtf is happening here.
Also it shows there were 24 books available but I sent you 36 books I think. And 18 were sold but I only remember getting paid for 10.
Honestly man I'm trying to be understanding but I asked for your help and you said you would do it and get well paid (50%) for the books and it has been almost two years now?
I don't know what to believe anymore. Pls advise I still love ya but come on man. You have me over a barrel or I would have picked it all up.

Note: This is now 30 months after I had shipped him all my items and he has listed almost nothing.
Tony probably cost me 50% or more in the sales he did make because they should have been posted during Christmas season but were not.

I haven’t told you things about my life and it’s time I did.
Noel is very, very sick both physically and emotionally. Every spare moment I have is spent taking her to hospitals and doctors. It cuts into my work time as well as any other time that I have. There is no spare time for me to do anything. It is literally killing her and taking a huge toll on my mental health. She is on more drugs than I can count and they are not helping. She is 57 years old and with her onset dementia she functions more like an 80 year old woman. She can’t walk any distance because of COPD and she is scared to be around people. She is a recluse. Please, please don’t share this with anyone as it would push her over the edge.
I know that you have trusted me with selling your things and it is just more stressful that I can’t get to it. I am thinking perhaps of selling it through a company that takes a cut and I would not take any of the money. Let me know how you feel about that. As for the 24 books being available, that was a number that I put up there as a guess when you started sending me books. I don’t know how many I have left but I will do a count. I have not cheated you and I hope you understand that. I still have everything else you sent me.
I know you need the money and I am doing my best under the circumstances.
My life-as yours- is not what either of us expected. When Noel goes, I will have nothing to be here for and my life will be over.
I hope you can understand.

Unfortunately while it may be true his wife is ill which I feel bad about as I met her and like her the fact remains tony was spending a lot of time on Facebook going after Liberals one time posting he hoped 10K Liberals would be killed for every one of theirs. (Tony is a MAGA member). I would try and debate him about Trump but to no avail. He told me he hated all Blacks and Immigrants and that he didn’t care that Trump was a convicted rapist and 7 time bankrupt businessman. He told me even his brother no longer talked to him. I can’t do this anymore. My wife is failing, I had RSV and then bronchitis and now I have diverticulitis with a small hole that may turn into diverticulosis. Noel broke her foot twice is house bound.

Mr Johnson has never sent me any photos of what items of mine he has left. Another lie. Note this is now 33 months after I had shipped him my items in July of 2022 and he has still not posted over 50-70% of the items I sent him and still no accounting after dozens of requests.
On March 27, 2025 I emailed Mr Johnson showing him a print screen photo from Ebay indicating he had sold 19 of my books (see attached file) but he had paid me only for 10. It also showed ‘free delivery’ which I several times told him to charge the buyer. The next day he changed the listing to show that 1 book had been sold so Ebay documents 20 books of mine sold but I only got paid for 10.
On March 28, 2025 after many many months asking yet again for any updates and getting none I emailed Mr Johnson stating, “Be advised you are no longer authorized to sell any items belonging to John Lightner that were shipped to you in July of 2022 at a cost to him of appr $500. The items were to be listed on Ebay prior to Christmas of 2022 but in fact to date over 50% of the items almost 3 years later have not even been listed.
Be advised that (no) efforts will be made to have the remaining items picked up. You were aware Mr Lightner had moved to Asia and had no ability or intention of returning nor had he had anyone else to sell the items.
You agreed to sell the items on Ebay and thru other methods but in fact for 20 months you paid him nothing nor did you supply him with any accounting of items sold.
Dozens of attempts by Mr Lightner either in phone calls, emails, sms etc were ignored or promises made to update but to no avail.
In fact he had to threaten to contact your boss in March of 2024 to have you pay him the monies due him for the previous 20 months.
Repeated attempts and requests for updates on sales for the past year have been ignored despite promises made by email that you would check your records and update him. You also promised to send him photos of items still in your possession but have not done so.
You also promised to hire an Ebay seller that I agreed to but you failed to do that as well.
Ebay records indicate you have sold 20 books; however you have only paid for 10. Repeated requests for payment have been ignored. It was only after the latest request in Mar of 2025 that you got upset and said you would no longer sell any items yet you still have the book, "Christmas Rarities" on Ebay.
Be advised that any items sold after March 28, 2025 would constitute theft, a felony.
We are demanding an inventory of items sold and items still in your possession.
Be advised that you have caused irreparable harm and damage to Mr Lightner; you have failed to provide documentation of items sold and the dates sold and you have refused to pay him for the 10 books or more sold to date.
Be advised that unless payment is made within 48 hours the only option is to file a lawsuit for damages, attorney's fees and costs.

On March 31, 2025 Mr Johnson sent me an email showing a payment of $1427.99. He stated he would consign my items to an auction house in Charleston that I would agree to but he has not done so. “There are 2 auction houses in Charleston that I would be willing to contact to consign your items to. If you agree to this you will select which of the 2 auction houses in Charleston Only. “
On March 00, 2025 I emailed Mr Johnson yet again a request for an update on all sales made and monies owed.
So the bottom line is I shipped abiut 10-15K worth of items to Mr Johnson in July of 2022. He agreed to sell them on Ebay or elsewhere and should have started before Christmas of 2022 but posted nothing for a year. Repeated efforts for accounting got ignored. He made two payemnts one in Jan of 2024 and another in 2025 but he never listed over 50-75% of my other items and I never got a real accounting of what he sold or the amounts and fees etc after dozens and dozens of requests over the years. I have no idea what he sold or got paid etc.
I have no idea what he may have sold or what he has left of mine after dozens of requests. He even admits in an email he sold books he has not paid me for. He promised accounting multiple times but never sent me any; he promised to list my items but did not; he agreed to allow me to use his mailing address knowing I moved to Thailand and would not be coming back; he promised to send me photos of all items still in his possession but has not done so; he promised to send my items to a third party seller then later to an auction house in Charleston but has done neither.

Please be advised that since you did not abide by the agreement made with John Lightner entered n to July of 2022;
since you have caused Mr Lightner irreparable damage and inflicted extreme pain and suffering for the past 33 months;
since you in fact kept over $1000 in your possession for 20 months without making any notice of sales or updates or accounting or payments to Mr Lightner;
since you sold items at prices not agreed to (his book was to be sold for $200;
since you deducted for shipping costs that were to be paid by the buyer;
since for almost 3 years you have failed to even post 50-75% of the items you agreed to sell but did not;
since you have refused dozens of requests for a full accounting of what was sold and what is left;
since your theft of monies and failure to give an accounting Mr Lightner on March 27, 2025 advised you that you were no longer authorized to sell any more of his items;
since you offered but now refuse to deliver his items to a seller or auction house that he would agree to;
since you offered to find an Ebay seller but have not;
since you refuse to give an accounting of the number of books sold after dozens of requests;
since you refuse to photograph the items left that you agreed to do but have not, Mr Lightner demands you ship his remaining items to him at his home address in Thailand.
When the agreement was made in July of 2022 you were aware that he had no home in the USA nor did he have any USA address. In fact with your permission he used your address in SC so he could receive mail there. In fact you sent him a credit card to his home in Thailand. In fact, you knew he was not going to return to the USA to live nor did he have anyone in he USA to sell his items which in fact is why he asked you to do so and agreed to but did not do and in fact kept his money for 20 months without any notice.
Failure to ship the items within one week would constitute theft and since the items are worth over 5K that is a felony in SC.
The only other options are to make a new agreement on sales; deliver the items to an agreed upon seller or pay Mr Lightner the $3500 he offered to sell the items to you for.

First of all, regarding Krisky, I have names of everyone involved in his many schemes. That's all I have to say about his business dealings, other than the fact that it's odd to me that you would associate with a person that single handedly destroyed the kugel market and made your berry kugel sell for a fraction of it's worth before he stuck his nose into everything. I have not - and will not listen to any recordings you made with him, since they are made by two men that hold no respect in the antique Christmas world and the conversation was probably scripted anyway.
You can continue to send me harassing emails all you want to, but the facts are that there was never a written agreement on a timeframe for me selling your items, sending you money on a specific timeframe or anything else for that matter. I was the only choice you had, unfortunately for me. If, in your past emails you had nothing else to do with the items as you state and I was your only option then I have made you money versus you leaving the items in storage to be seized and sold off for non payment of the storage unit or you would have thrown everything away in the dumpster you say you threw your books and other items. What, exactly, did you do with the thousands and thousands of dollars worth of items you claim that were in the storage locker that you had 2 days to dispose of? Your obsession with the books is odd, since you went "dumpster diving", in your words, after I told you that I could probably have sold more of them. I have already sold more than the initial amount you sent me and you just keep complaining.
With regard to your items:
There are two auction houses in Charleston that are on Liveauctioneers and the only two I will deal with..
Charleston Estate Services and Charleston Estate Auctions.
Charleston Estate Services charges a 39% commission rate. I spoke to a woman named Alisishia and she told me to bring everything in and they will take photos and do the auction. She said they are on 3 platforms for online bidding.
There are no companies in Charleston that sell on Ebay. I have no intention whatsoever of paying you $3500.00 for items that I do not want or need. You have no idea what the US economy is like at present and the items mentioned, in my opinion, are worth nothing close to your "offer". I will also not send your items to your address. There was never anything mentioned about this, it would cost more than the items are worth, they (as you well know and have told me) would have a 50/50 chance of ever arriving due to the corruption in your Country and if they ever arrived any glass or clay products would most certainly be shattered.
I called Charleston Estate Auctions and left a message and he answered me by text asking for photos. I will take some for him and forward them to you. I don't know their commission rates. You can look them up or I can let you know when I send the photos and hear back from him.
I will not keep any money from any sold items of yours from this point forward.
With your agreement, I will list the books one at a time and send you the money through Wise only as soon as I receive money from Ebay. I will sell nothing else on Ebay. I will tell the auction houses to list the ornaments in lots of 10 or so.
I have in my possession the glass ornaments you sent me less the ones sold on Ebay, the Japanese Vase that, as you know, is not particularly old and does not have much value, the rug which you know is a Chinese copy of what you bought as an antique which was listed on Ebay for several weeks and never had more than 5 views and 2 watchers, one feather tree made in the US within the past 30 years, about 40" tall. One West German feather tree with damaged paper box stand about 40" tall, the Corn what's his name bowl that was listed on ebay and had a couple of views and one watcher and 12 books.. That's all I can think of at the moment as it is all in closets.
To date Mr Johnson has not sent me any photos or followed up. More lies.
He has ignored me, lied to me and stolen my items. He is a thief.
Now as an aside and this is difficult to report as he was at one time a good friend of mine but something happened to him. At one time I owned one of the the largest kugel collections in the USA. These are antique thick glass balls and fruit molds from Germany. An individual named Joe Krisky had contacted me about buying my kugels and giving him contacts as he was obsessed with collecting them and had very deep pockets. I did sell him most of my rare kugels for large amounts of money some costing him 5K or more. I introduced him to Tony Johnson.
Joe Krisky was so obsessed with the kugels that he found a chemist in Washington state who was able to clean out the old silvering (the silvering gives the ornament the mirror finish) and re silver the kugels. Joe Krisky re silvered kugels for Tony Johnson who in turn sold at least one for 4K. Not only did he not tell the buyer he had re silvered it but it was most likely a fake from India.
You can read part of the email he sent me on April 9, 2025 stating, “ First of all, regarding Krisky, I have names of everyone involved in his many schemes. That's all I have to say about his business dealings” Right. Johnson kept his mouth shut because he was involved in the scam with Krisky. I was able to reach Krisky by phone and I tape recorded his comments.
Later on Joe Krisky got divorced and sold off most of his collection. Tony Johnson told me Krisky had been selling amythest grape kugels on Ebay that were re silvered and fakes.

Here are two photos from Ebay first one taken on March 25, 2025 showing Johnson sold 19 of my books and the second one taken on March 27, 2025 showing he sold one book after he changed the listing. So again he sold 20 books (or more we do not know since he refuses to give an accounting) but only paid for 13. As you can see in the second photo it shows there are 6 books left which would mean Johnson sold 24 of the books I sent him but he only paid for 13.
